Planning a lesson has a lot of benefits for teachers, as it helps them to have a clear structure of what will happen during the lesson, with a timing for each part and making sure that we are not late on our progression. But that doesn't mean we can't be flexible and adapt our lesson depending on how good the students are evolving, and in that case we can get ourselves in the situation where a simple lesson becomes a sequence of lessons. The most important part of the lesson plan is the monitoring of it, to see if we have covered everything we wanted the students to be able to learn or accomplish at the end of the lesson, or things that we haven't done well and might have to be adjusted next time on a general teaching stand point. Recording the lesson to reuse or adapt for another level of class is also very useful.
