Unit 14 focuses on teaching materials such as course books and other equipment needed for teaching in the classroom. Two categories of material-authentic and created were discussed in this unit. While authentic materials such as magazines and TV shows seem to appear as very interesting and convenient to use, not all materials can be graded for the level of the students especially if they are low-level students. Created materials are mostly used when teaching foreign students as they are made by the teacher. It is good to use both as using only created material would hamper the student?s knowledge and ability to converse in general matters while using only authentic materials to beginner students would be of no benefit at all to their learning progress. The use of coursebooks was also considered in this unit and personally, I think it would be beneficial for me to use one in a balanced way of course, for the future, whether I?m teaching in a classroom or giving personal tutoring.
