Today I learned that the structure and system of the past tenses in the english language is not too different from present tenses. However, past tenses relate to the past while present tenses are used for present time periods. Past tenses are devided into four different forms: The past simple, past perfect continuous, past continuous and the past perfect. Like in the previous unit about present tenses, this unit provided detailed information about how to form and how to use the different tenses. Another important part concerned common students mistakes / errors. After finishing this Unit I feel prepared to correct students mistakes / errors appropriately as well as incorporate the past tenses into a lesson. The given teaching ideas about how to teach theoretical things such as irregular verb forms or the correct usage of the various tenses were really inspirational and will be an helpfull tool when starting to teach in real life.
