Unit 4 is about course books and lesson materials. Authentic materials are what a native speaker would hear or read-programs, magazines, newspapers, poems, videos among others. Some of the advantages of using authentic materials are they are more interesting and motivating; the students gain confidence when they understand them, and they can be geared to the interests of a particular group of students. Created materials are usually designed by the teacher to supplement materials from a course book. Some of these include: crosswords, role play cards, and pictures stories. Course books consists of student's books, workbook, cassettes, teachers book, and other published materials. In teaching the English language, the course book should not be used for the whole lesson. The teacher should not base all lesson around the course book. In this unit I have learned that the teacher has a great deal of hard work to look forward to. The teacher should not only use the course books, but also be creative in planning his/her lessons and taylor it to the needs of his/her students. The teacher should make use of creative materials in motivating his/her students. It is also the responsibility of the teacher to adapt the materials he is using, whether a course book, or a created material, to make the students understand the lesson the easiest way possible.
