Receptive skills, which are reading and listening, are part of the four basic skills of any language. To be able to teach a lesson, focus on receptive skills, the teacher needs to keep in mind students are learning this for entertainment or a particular purpose. Therefore, it is important that the teacher always picks topics that will motivate the students to learn. This unite taught me the different skills used when reading material such as detailed reading, scanning, skimming, deduction and prediction. It is essential to remember that all these skills should be part of our lesson plan after the engage phase. The engage phase should only be used to break the ice and create interest on the topic. Furthermore, another important point to keep in mind when planning a lesson is the problems that may be encountered when teaching receptive skills such as reading and listening. Some of these problems could be the speed which the information is presented to the student, the structure, and vocabulary of sentences within the content or the flow of information. To avoid these problems the teacher should do as fallowing. First, pre-teach vocabulary or grammar prior found in the context selected at the begging of the study phase. Secound, carefully choose the text and topic that will be used for activities. The teacher must make sure it is interesting to the student. Finally, the teacher must create interest for the context being taught during the engage phase.
