This unit covered teaching techniques for teaching vocabulary, grammar and functions of the English language. There were a number of key points about what affects a student's ability to learn and grasp new words such as the similarity of the words to the learner's native language. The unit also discussed things to avoid as teachers such as origin of words and frequency of use of certain patterns; this is not to mean that these things may not be important , however, they are not relevant to help a student learn a new word and how it is used. Functions were also covered in this unit, emphasizing the need to teach vocabulary and grammar that can help a student almost immediately.
