This unit explains the main teaching aids that can be used during a lesson.
Regarding my personal experience, in my student years the teachers made a large use of tools such as boards, cassette recorders, course books, photocopies (especially during the school years) and of overhead projectors, dictionaries and computers in the university years. Other methods such as visual aids, worksheets, videos and video cameras were definitely less used, as far as I remember, and now, thanks to this course, I understand that this was a big fault.
Visual aids are necessary to elicit language and add interest, worksheets are useful for reading and grammar exercises, videos can be used to stimulate discussion and also for communicative activities as students can see as well as hear and therefore are easy to understand. The video camera records the students during an activity and is a helpful tool because can originate analysis and discussion.
