This is how our TEFL graduates feel they have gained from their course, and how they plan to put into action what they learned:
Tests and evaluations are a big part of learning a language. Not only does it provide the teacher with clues as to how well a student is absorbing the information, but it also helps them decide what to focus on moving forward, and whether a student needs any specialized help in an area. I am familiar with placements and progress tests in a language class, but I hadn't yet thought of diagnostic tests for the beginning of a course. External examinations are also of importance, although I believe I won't be dealing with any of those directly in my line of teaching; at least not at the beginning. I think it will be a challenge to create evaluations from scratch, especially ones that will assess each individual student well enough to highlight their own strengths and weaknesses.
