It is the teacher's responsibility to encourage students to learn while in the classroom. The teacher's focus should be on finding ways to improve opportunities for all students to use their new language skills in a supportive environment. The teacher can do this by using gestures, eye contact, classroom arrangement methods designed to increase student interaction with each other and by being consistent in the classroom and on time so as to establish a good rapport with the students. A teacher's effectiveness has a lot to do with setting the tone in the classroom from the outset and then assisting the students as they learn the new language.
