This unit discussed the advantages and disadvantages of using authentic versus created course materials. It explained that through the use of authentic material, the students will probably become more engaged in the subject material and may learn things that are more relevant to their language needs. However, created material can provide a more wholesome, well-rounded education, since it tends to cover many different parts of language learning. It also allows students to feel like they are making progress and helps the class stay on track. I feel more equipped to pick out course material for my ESL classes after studying this unit.
