This unit provides an overview of technology and resources in the typical ESL classroom. For each resource, there are suggestions for usage before, during, and after lessons. A successful classroom effectively utilizes a variety of tools. Teachers should receive training before using certain tools such as Interactive Whiteboards. When using technology, it is always a good idea to have alternative tools at hand in case the technology malfunctions. Visual aids, videos, and audio are all necessary aids in an ESL classroom. These tools should be used to enhance rather than distract learning. This unit covers the need to emphasize the writing and speaking portions of communication. This unit goes almost hand in hand with the lesson on reading and listening. The breakdown of these two halves express how essential it is to learn all 4 subjects. This unit also serves to create examples of different ways in which students learn and practice speaking and writing which can and should be used in standard ESA lesson plans. The need to keep students confident and comfortable is also touched on as well as techniques in these two lessons to keep students feeling positive about learning.
