In unit thirteen,i learned of pronunciation and phonology.Pronunciation, being the way in which a word or language is pronounced while phonology is the study of the pattern of speech sounds used in a particular language. These pronunciation and phonology can not be neglected if one has teach the English language because both are equally important. With the study of phonology intonation, stress and rhythm are used in helping students to come to an understanding of the pronunciation of English words. This is done by using the fall, rise and flat intonation patterns. The stress on syllable and the techniques used by most teachers,by doing choral work, that is singing and underlining the stress words on the board, makes understanding of the language easier. While words like,an,a,the, among other articles are not stressed. In this unit,I also learned of the phonemic symbols, which are seen in consonant both voiced and unvoiced.Vowels and Diphthongs,(the sound that consist of one or two vowels). Also, the use of diagrams to elaborate on articulation, can also help to understand sound system better. With this, teachers or speakers of a language can pay attention to the movement of the mouth, lips and throat positions when pronouncing. These helps to identify sounds of words in different languages.
