This is how our TEFL graduates feel they have gained from their course, and how they plan to put into action what they learned:
Unit 5 was extremely useful for me, because I do not have an education degree. Although I have a good knowledge of the English language, I never learned how to manage a classroom. I simply try to do what is fair, consistent, kind, and effective. It is good to learn about specific classroom management techniques, however. I found two things to be helpful, in particular. First of all, I learned that teachers should not ask if students understand something, but to ask them to explain the instructions back instead. I also learned a bit more about responding to problematic behavior. I only have one problematic student and I am proud to say that I have almost always responded to him in an appropriate way. It was great to see a specific list of good ways to respond, however.
