In unit 3 we learn about classroom management and different ways teachers can manage their classroom so that effective learning can take place. Teachers need to know when to be firm and when to leave the students alone. It is important for the teacher to be flexible in the classroom and to change roles according to the activity or situation. Teachers should manage their classes in a friendly, relaxed manner while maintaining discipline. In this unit I learnt about nine different ways that can help me to manage my classroom as effectively as possible, namely; eye contact, gestures and the voice, grouping students, classroom arrangement, writing on the board, giving individual attention, teacher talking time and student talking time, giving instructions, establishing rapport and managing discipline. Personally for me as a teacher, classroom management has always been challenging because of class size or over dominant students. After reading through this unit I will try a few of these strategies in my classroom and see what works and what doesn?t work, especially with classroom arrangement, giving individual attention and managing discipline.
