In this unit, I learned how to deal with the classroom in terms of eye contact, gestures, my voice, seat formations, groupings of students, gaining respect and establishing rapport, and general discipline. It seems that the best thing to do is strike a balance between everything. For example, as the teacher, I should make sure to make enough eye contact with the students to hold their attention and acknowledge their participation, but I should not intimidate them by holding long stares. Similarly, it is good to implement pair work so that the students have more talk time, but it is also important to allow students to work individually and to be able to explain concepts to the whole class during the Study stage of ESA.
