From this unit I have learned about various tests for English students. In a school setting there are four tests I may have experience with each having its own purpose. Diagnostic tests are given at the start of a course to see where students are. Progress tests are given throughout the semester to chart the students progress throughout the length of the course. Practice exams are given to provide students with practice for external exams. External exams are not typically given in schools, but are what we prepare students for. It is important to understand and use each kind of test to provide students with the best preparation for using english in the real world, and in some cases to prepare them for an external exam.
