This is how our TEFL graduates feel they have gained from their course, and how they plan to put into action what they learned:
Phonics and pronunciation are often left by the wayside in many English classes. This is unfortunate, as these are vital parts of spoken English. It is not particularly uncommon to encounter an ESL speaker with very good English, but whose pronunciation and phonology make then difficult to understand.
In addition, pronunciation and phonics can be more difficult aspects of English to teach. For this reason, we learned various methods for teaching them in this unit. These included labeled diagrams identifying different parts of the mouth used to produce speech.
In this unit, I feel I learned more about the terminology of different parts of the mouth, and more about phonetic writing. I also learned valuable ideas for teaching phonics and pronunciation to students.
