Unit 8 covered the future tenses, their forms and usage. Past units revealed 4 tenses to communicate different aspects of the tense; however, unit 8 added 3 others in the future tense structure: Be going + infinitive, present simple and present continuous. Be going is included in the future tense to show intent, make predictions based on present evidence and announce plans: decisions made before one has chosen to speak. Present simple is included in this unit to note timetables, schedules and to suggest an impersonal tone. Present continuous is included in unit 8 to explain definite arrangements like stating to go on a trip by a certain future date and implying that actions have been taken to insure this. All of these have future implications, which is why they are being utilized on the future tense structure. As before with past tense and present tense, unit 8 allowed us the opportunity to learn about future simple, future continuous, future perfect, and future perfect continuous. I think this unit is more difficult than the other tenses due to its complexity and wide range of use. I attribute my understanding of the future tense to the form given as an example sentence structure: these formulas we are given has been very useful to me. They aid in helping a student identify the tense and retain what has been learned.
