This unit covers many ideas in pronunciation and phonology. Intonation deals with the rise and fall of speech, to which different uses have different intents in expression. There are ways to teach intonation, such as the rise and fall of the hand and through humming and singing out words. Similar to intonation is stress of a word, which also has rules in English and can be taught on the board with underlining, or tapping or clapping stress points, among other techniques. Lastly, this unit covers the phonemic alphabet and articulation. The phonetic alphabet is a visual representation of the sounds in a word and articulation is influenced by anatomy, such as breath, tongue placement, and vocal chord vibration.
