This TEFL course has taught me about english grammar and tools to use in order to prepare and manage a class. The knowledge of english grammar - from indirect speech to the simple definitions of the parts of speech - will be useful in the actual act of teaching. It is important to review all of this material before trying to teach someone. Aside from english grammar, I have learned about the ways to prepare and manage a class. I have learned about what a teacher needs to do before the first day of class: plan syllabi, order course books, research the institution of the students (if the students are taking the course through an institution, such as a business), set up the classroom and prepare for the first day of class. I have learned about what a teacher needs to do to prepare for each lesson: write a lesson plan, prepare materials such as handouts or readings or DVDs, plan and write tests and identify potential difficulties for the student and for the teacher. I have learned about what a teacher needs to do during each class: manage a classroom, talk slowly and clearly, keep tabs on how each student is doing, establish rapport between students and teachers and foster a nice learning environment.
