As someone who loves the english language, I was excited to take this course. I wanted the skills to be able to teach non-english speakers- english. What I gained was much more than I bargained for.
This course really made me learn the bones of english, and learn how to teach something that just comes naturally to me. I admit this is a struggle for me, but it has forced me to grow as a person. I have gained a confidence with this course that I could actually teach an ESL class, and come up with competent lesson plans, where the students would not only be learning, but learning in a fun environment.
I also learned how important it is to have a good relationship with the students, and just like a mother sets the tone in a home, the teacher sets the tone in a classroom. I also feel as though I could choose an effective course book and resource materials because of the detail that this course goes into on that topic.
In August I plan to teach an ESL class at a local orphanage. That will be volunteer work, and I don’t know what the future holds as far as this training goes, but I do know that english is an international language, and it is beneficial for people to know it and be able to use it, so I hope to always be teaching it, no matter what the circumstances are.
