Unit 11, Teaching Receptive Skills, was yet another helpful amount of information for me. Because I have never studied pedagogy itself, I never knew the term that was focused on in this unit, \"receptive skills\". It was good to learn that because now I know why most effective language teachers try to have their students practice reading, listening, writing, and speaking in as balanced of a way as possible. I also now know that I need to be more intentional about organizing my own future lessons in this way, because it will help my students succeed. I will especially try to pre-teach vocabulary, as it sounds like a really effective way of simplifying what might initially seem like a complicated or intimidating lesson to students.
