This unit covers teaching different groups of students, from young beginners to business professionals. The way a teacher addresses these groups varies based on age and English experience, but parallels can be drawn between the groups in terms of how a teacher should assess the needs of the group and develop a plan to address those needs. Some groups require a needs analysis to address the best way to move forward for the class as a whole. Similarly, goals must be developed with individual students that balance both their needs and wants in learning English. While support and encouragement is especially required to teach younger learners, all groups require an environment where students feel comfortable making mistakes and communicating openly in English with each other.
