Unit 4 is difficult for me for two main reasons. First, because I am a native speaker of English, and the verb tenses are things I learned naturally in my youth and seldom had to study in school (and when I did they were quickly forgotten because that information was never used). Second, as an EFL teacher in South Korea I never had to teach anything beyond the simple tenses; my Korean co-teachers took care of most of the grammar and mechanics. Excuses? Yes, but also reality. I don't expect to have to teach all of the tenses in the future, but I should know more (be able to explain more). In unit 20 we talked about troubleshooting common problem situations. This unit looked at some things that could be done when dealing with various situations in the classroom. It gave tips on dealing with your first lesson and some various warmers. Next, it looked at dealing with large classes and some issues that may exist and how to work with those situations. We looked at the use of the native language in class as well as working with reluctant students. Finally, it gave us some ideas in helping students with trouble doing the listening texts exercises and some troubleshooting techniques.
