In this unit, I learned about the advantages and disadvantages of using textbooks in a class. This is very relevant to me because as an assistant language teacher, I work with Japanese English teachers who often stick strictly to the book because it is the usual Japanese teaching style. Since the books are approved by the government and made specifically for Japanese students, there's not much of a problem with material being unsuitable based on nationality. However, the material is often boring for the students in general (especially for my students, who are attending a sports focused school and reading about things like tuna). It is up to me to suggest outside materials that might be more interesting for the students. This unit gave me many ideas for how to improve my resources.
