Common problem situations. With first lessons it is vital that the teacher establishes rapport with the students. Usually not using the course book but using different activities to get to know the students. This will help to understand the type of lessons to teach the students at what ever level of English understanding they are at. If you start the lesson with a game this should have all students involved and get to know each other. Problems may occur when teaching a large class, some activities like worksheets and appointing group leaders. Try to discourage the students speaking in their own language and to speak only English. If some students are reluctant to become involved in class activities, you may need to group the students into pairs.
