The content dealt with the productive skills of speaking and writing. With regard to speaking, there was treatment of fluency versus accuracy and, specifically, at what stages of a lesson plan each skill should be developed and tested. Also, the contrast between motivations for speaking and writing were underscored. Writing is often left out of lessons because of a lack of treatment and a perceived lack of importance by students, parents and local educators in L1. After all, many L1 educators and parents believe that students already know how to write and that the teacher's job is \"conversation.\" Conversation about what only God knows. I learned this is an incorrect approach and how it can be corrected.
