Unit 7 covers 3 major components of ESA; teaching vocabulary, introducing grammatical structures, and teaching language functions. When teaching vocabulary, a teacher needs to select words that are teachable and are appropriate to teach. Introducing language structures depends largely on the level of the class, but will also likely already be determined by a syllabus. Language functions include areas such as inviting, refusing, agreeing, disagreeing, suggesting, and others. A teacher needs to select appropriate functions to teach, and role-playing is an effective method for activating language amongst students. This unit develops further on ESA and the types of lessons one can use within the ESA models.
