I'm very glad to go so in depth on pronunciation and phonology. It's easy as a teacher to want students to just \"do it,\" but a knowledge of how we go about producing sounds in English can only help. I often have trouble getting native speakers of Mandarin to pronounce my name, Will, correctly, because there is no short \"i\" sound in Mandarin. I usually struggle to think how to convey this sound to them, so hopefully I will be more prepared for situations like this in the future.
I imagine I will need to keep reviewing the terminology of this lesson for a while to internalize it, but having a working knowledge of which consonants in English are dental, bilabial, palatal, etc. seems helpful.
