In this unit, the subjects of Course Books and Materials are examined. The factors of authentic and created materials are further examined, with specific attention to the effectiveness, as well as advantages/disadvantages of one over the other. This, of course, is influenced in part, by class language-level,e.g. elementary versus intermediate or advanced, in addition to the experience level of the teacher.
From this unit I have learned that authentic materials are better suited to the higher language level classes, and that following the course book syllabus without question, is not in the best interests of the students, regardless of language-level.
