The unit provided good and bad examples of applying a Straight Arrow ESA lesson plan. Whilst previous units have been theoretical, this provided a visual/experiential demonstration of what is effective and not. By beginning with what the students might know as part of the Engage phase, it was both a warmup and an introduction to the rest of the lesson. This pretty much leads to modal auxiliary verbs rather than just introducing the concept. The theme around animals were consistent for the rest of lesson, which I thought also helped the students' overall understanding of the concept and ability to recall its application. Apart from applying the lesson plan, the gestures/attitude of the teacher really do affect the relationship between teacher and students and the overall learning experience - both for the teacher and the students. Furthermore, the relationship isn't just built over one lesson but (hopefully) over multiple classes.
