This unit covered the differences between teaching a normal language class and teaching special groups. These groups can be based on age, language level, class size, or profession. Teaching young learners can be more difficult because of classroom management, but can also be more rewarding. Adults are more likely to be motivated to learn because of their jobs or personal interest, but they also have to balance the course with their personal lives. It is also important with adult learners to not try to be an expert in their respective fields, but to use their knowledge to elicit more detailed conversations in English that fit with their interests.
