Knowing the difference between mistakes and errors is huge for both a teacher and a student. Teachers can sometimes be quick to jump on an error or mistake. What we have to keep in mind is that we all make mistakes; we all have a slip of the tongue. The important thing is to communicate to students not to give up and to learn to identify their mistakes (or errors in some cases) and correct them. It is so important to encourage students through all stages of their learning. I often struggle with engaging high school students because they start school so early in the morning; they?re barely awake by 2nd Period! I work very hard to make sure my lessons are engaging to help keep them focused and interested in the topic or lesson.
