In this unit I have learned several different ways to teach such as grammar-translation and task-based learning. I have also learned about Engage, Study, and Activate which is considered to be the most effective teaching method by the author of this unit. I believe that in my work using a straight arrow ESA lesson will be necessary as the time at the school which I intend to teach at is limited to 35 minute per class, and although a boomerang lesson may occasionally be effective, I believe that the patchwork lesson simply will not fit into that 35 minutes. There are many steps in a patchwork lesson which I believe is more well-suited to a longer class period. I have also learned about several games that can be used within each of the stages of the ESA lesson methodology which may prove to be useful in the future. The unit goes over the importance of evaluation also and some best practices such as not over-correcting and how as a teacher we must also be certain to praise correct answers to keep students motivated to continue.
