Unit 9 concerns lesson planning. Planning a lesson is very important for less experienced teachers as they are not going to have the knowledge to guide a class though a lesson “off the top of their head”. Planning the lesson beforehand provides a reference for the teacher during the lesson and ensures that the teachers is familiar with the material. Lesson plans can serve as a record or log of past classes and can be a useful reference. A critical part of planning is to not only write a plan to follow, but to prepare the classroom with any teaching aids needed, test various equipment, and arrange the furniture, thus being able to give full attention to the students. It is a good idea to perform a self debrief after each lesson to examine what worked and what was not effective and how to improve. In addition to planning individual lessons, the entire class should have a similar, overarching plan that identifies clear goals for the teacher and the students. Unit 9 concludes with several example lesson activities.
