Unit three covered course development. It discussed level tests and the 5 different levels of the young language learner: Starter, Elementary, Pre-intermediate, Intermediate, and Upper-Intermediate. It also mentioned what kind of things you need to think about when creating a syllabus: what your employer tells you to teach, the length of time of the course, the resources available to you, the cultural issues in the country you are teaching in, as well as the students (who are they and what environment are they in). There are several different kinds of syllabuses that you can create: Structural, Functional-notional, learner-led, and situational. This unit also covered the different tests you can give to assess your students to include: diagnostic, placement, aptitude, achievement, proficiency, and progress tests. It discussed when each test should be given and for what purpose. It also explained the different examinations young learners can take to show their proficiency in the English language.
