The success of a student learning a new language is strongly dependent on the relationship between the teacher and the student. A good teacher knows this and understands that every student has their own motivations for learning and learning experiences that will influence their behavior. These motivations and experience vary among different age groups and different cultures. For example, adults prefer lively adult discussion where as very young learners do well with songs and games; learning English is Asia is a serious and quiet endeavor whereas in Latin America it is suitable it to be a loud affair. A good teacher recognizes these differences and will vary their teaching approach to different circumstances to best meet their student's needs. To develop a good relationship with their student a good teacher will be fair, knowledgeable, and will have the ability to motivate their student. An exciting and interesting classroom contributes to student motivation.
