This unit discussed the use or disuse of course books in different classroom settings. There are many factors to consider when deciding whether to use a course book or not. However, a key answer to this dilemma is to incorporate the course book material into the lesson. The teacher should also incorporate outside activities and learning goals into the lesson as well. This is to ensure students are not able to predict the material and therefore make learning more interesting. Although there are many factors a teacher must consider when choosing a course book, if one is not assigned, but there are four main options for course book use. These include omitting certain lessons if they are not appropriate for the student levels, replacement of omitted lessons with more appropriate material for student interest and level, supplementation of present course book material and adaptation of present course book material for greater student interest.
