Unit 18 encompassed modal auxiliary verbs, passive voice, phrasal verbs and relative clauses. The first interesting thing that I gained from this unit was that phrasal verbs can/should be learned as vocabulary items when teaching students. Secondly, after watching the video unit (about positive/negative teaching) it was helpful to review what exactly he was teaching about when explaining modal auxiliary verbs such as can & can't. In addition, I have never really thought of modal verbs as particular expressions depending on which one you use in the sentence. Also, included in that would be the knowledge of differing degrees of formality with this type of verb. Lastly, the most difficult section to this unit was the passive & active voice. The chart explaining the tense to the passive form was extremely beneficial in understanding this section. In conclusion, I found this unit challenging yet useful in teaching these areas to my students.
