This unit is about the common problems teachers may encounter in the classroom. As far as dealing with different levels, I prefer a mixture of giving different and/or additional materials and sometimes pairing stronger with weaker students. It is hard to make students not use their native language in a monolingual class. Only speaking English with them of course helps from the teaching point of view, but I often see students switching to their native language. I realize that tone/rule has to be set from the first day of class. Once allowed, students easily resort to their native language to communicate with each other. I’ve used reward systems for younger students to motivate them to only speak English in class. As also highlighted in this unit and course overall, being prepared and ready for class ahead of time is of profound importance. This ranges from testing equipment to planning differentiation.
