This unit covered special groups of students and the unique issues and requirements for those learners. It discussed teaching beginners and the different categories that even that level can fall into such as absolute beginners, false beginners, beginners who use a different alphabet system etc. The unit talked about teaching children and the ways it can be interesting and fun as well as some of the challenges of engaging children, maintaining their interest and motivation and classroom discipline. It also talked about special circumstances with adult learners such as learners of business English and how courses should be tailored to them and how they should be seen as 'clients' more than with other learners. It also talked about the unique circumstances that one-on-one teaching can create. Group work is obviously not a possibility but also how you as the teacher become the partner during pair work.
