This unit covered Modals, phrasal verbs, and passive voice. I feel that I have gained a fairly good grasp of passive voice through this unit. However, I also feel that I still can't quite understand the concept of phrasal verbs and the 3 types that they come in. As the text states near the end of the chapter, phrasal verbs are often taught as vocabulary to English learners. Teaching at a lower level, I rarely come across phrasal verbs, but the few I've seen have all been taught as vocabulary. The text stated that this is because a change in the particle can alter the meaning of the phrasal verb. Interestingly, I've noticed that I tend to avoid using phrasal verbs during class because their \"slang-like\" nature can make it near impossible for my students to understand me. This just causes more time to be spent on something that can be phrased differently or in a way that students can understand.
