This unit, which covered the past tense, was a continuation of the present tense lesson. The past tense, like the present (and the future), contains four forms: simple, continuous, perfect, perfect continuous. Each form has different usages and unique errors often made by students. What I feel I have learned from this lesson is that the past simple form contains many irregular verbs that are conjugated differently and simply require memorization (as there is no pattern). After reading the unit, I also noticed that many of these irregular verbs are ones that I hear frequently in everyday conversations, making them particularly important to students. Some examples of these verbs are: be – was/were, say- said, have – had etc. Furthermore, “be” and “have” must be memorized in order to form past continuous, past perfect, and past perfect continuous forms of verbs.
