This is how our TEFL graduates feel they have gained from their course, and how they plan to put into action what they learned:
This unit stressed the importance of using tests to evaluate students learning English. The unit covered a variety of different types of tests (Placement, Diagnostic, Progress, Practice, and External tests) and when they should be used in the classroom. A placement test is normally used prior to a course to assess a student's knowledge of the four skills (reading, writing, listening, and speaking).A diagnostic test is also often given at the beginning of a course to assess a student's strengths and aptitude. A progress test also tests the four skills but is given at different times during the course so that the teacher can see the weaknesses of the students. A practice test is normally used to prepare students for external tests. External tests assess a student's proficiency of English for different settings such as: university, general, and business. Some examples of external tests include; Cambridge Suite, CELS, TOEIC, BULATS, and IELTS, In conclusion, I now have a better understanding of different kinds of tests and how to effectively use them to access the levels of my students.
