This unit was about phonology. There are some the love the concept and some that hate it. I fall into the latter category. A phonetics chart is a ridiculous waste of time in today's classroom. For it to be effective, the teaching style needs to be reiterated and covered at every step of the learning process. It is not. It takes an immense amount of time to explain the process and then it is immediately irrelevant because of local dialect and pronunciation. There are many more effective ways to teach a second language than to use a third to explain it. I hate everything about phonology.I feel this unit is only useful for knowing what kinds or resources and materials you should use when teaching receptive skills. I personally feel there should have first been a section on how to teach receptive skills and what is the basic theory behind the learning of receptive skills. Yes this unit helps with resources and materials and I feel more confident knowing what I may use when teaching listening and reading, but I do not feel confident in teaching these two concepts as yet because I have not been given the basics of how to teach these two concepts properly given the theory of them.
