I have done some TEFL Teaching to a monolingual class, in Macau and although I did enjoy all teaching aspects it was sometimes hard going. The biggest problem I had while teaching chinese students was to get them to say anything. To ask one student a direct question would result in a shake of the head and silence, (loosing face is a big thing in China). This course has given me many ideas and ways of dealing with the problems that I had encountered. Below is a short list of some of the aspects of the course that I have found very helpful. Lesson planning Showing how to plan and prepare material and keep it continuous and on course. Grammar Shows the main grammar points that will be covered and how to explain clearly. Classes Dealing with different sizes, layouts and levels of classes and how to use the different props in the classes Exercises The many different suggestions for exercises / activities that can be used in the lesson for the students to complete will be invaluable. Now I can see ways of over coming the problems I encountered and make the lesson not only beneficial but enjoyable. I will be using the different lesson plans, and stages to cover and teach the material and the different exercises to cover the material. As the course progressed each unit has given me ideas and how to use them in the class. It will be easier to find material to work with, e.g. on the internet by following the courses suggestions. I’m genuinely happy that I took the course as what I have learnt will be invaluable in the future. Money well spent.
