This unit emphasised the importance of selecting the correct texts for the learners and the differences between authentic and non-authentic texts. I learned the importance of pre-teaching difficult vocabulary in texts before asking the learners to read it and not assuming prior knowledge. It was useful as I now know the importance of letting learners explore some language themselves and predict meaning.this chapter reinforces that when teaching, it is important to not only focus on what to teach but that when planning it is important to consider other factors such as how to manage the classroom and also to be aware of other factors such as arranging the students and building rapport, all which can determine the outcome of the class and if the students will be able to effectively learn from the lesson.
