In this unit we have looked at two aspects of grammar:conditionals and reported speech.
For conditionals, we have looked at the sentence characteristics (in particular, tenses) for each conditional and how each is used: e.g. for zero conditionals the statements are things that are generally thought to be true. We have also looked at a variety of activities that could be used in the activate stage of a class to encourage students to use conditionals.
For reported speech, we have looked at how tenses and the reported day or time needs to be altered in the reported sentence (including backshifting). A variety of reporting verbs should be taught to support vocabulary development and tasks should be adapted to be suitable for the level of students being taught.
