In this unit, I learned that every sentence has various parts of speech that are each named and categorized. It is important to know the difference between them-i.e. the difference between an adjective and an adverb. Parts of speech might be common knowledge to a native English speaker, but can be much harder to teach to ESL students, so having a basic knowledge and understanding of grammar and parts of speech is a must. This unit covered receptive and productive skills. Receptive skills include reading and writing. Productive skills include speaking and listening. We use receptive skills for entertainment and a sense of purpose. There are five different sorts of reading skills. I believe each skills is useful in its own way because their purpose varies. An example is the reading scanning skill. This is used to find specific information.
