Reading and listening are receptive skills. They are not less important than writing and speaking. Before giving our students any text to read or any audio to listen, we should select a good authentic or non-authentic material based on student's interests and abilities. We should engage students before the activity to make them genuinely involved in it.There is a need to pre-teach unknown vocabulary. However, we need to keep the balance and not explain every single word in the text. We should push our students to have a habit of learning and understanding material without knowing every word. The text or an audio should be followed by comprehension task. It shouldnâ€™t be too easy, but not too hard either.
